Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the T-Mobile G2X leaked – flash away!
We saw Gingerbread leak out for the T-Mobile G2X not long ago, but it wasn’t available to download. Since then, we’ve had the CyanogenMod Nightly builds to play around with, but one of T-Mobile’s official builds for the hot new handset has leaked out, and is available for your flashing pleasure.
The update is rather large, which is likely due to all of the bloatware thrown into the build. At 173MB, it’s almost twice as large as your average CyanogenMod build, but since you have to be rooted just to flash the ROM itself, you can remove all of these extra apps. Either way, if you want your first taste of Gingerbread, look no further. T-Mobile has assured G2X users that Gingerbread would be one its way soon, and this leaked ROM looks to fulfill that promise, unofficially.
We’re still not sure how stable this build is, or if it’s anywhere near final, but it seems to be good enough for most. You can simply flash this build over your existing setup, and have everything remain intact. We’d obviously suggest you perform a back up of your previous ROM before you flash this, just to be safe. It can take a while to flash and boot up the first time around, so be patient.
While it’s not being sent through a OTA update, this Gingerbread seems fast and stable, so it’s definitely worth the a try if you want to get the latest and greatest on the T-Mobile G2X right now. No, it’s not CyanogenMod 7, but it’ll have to do for now.
Keep in mind that you must have a rooted G2X with the ClockwordMod recovery installed (through NVFlash) for the best experience.
If you flashed this ROM, how are you liking it? Have you run into any issues so far? Sound off in the comments!
