Glu Mobile to make mobile games based on the work of best-selling author James Frey

In what seems as a strange partnership, Glu Mobile is teaming-up with Full Fathom Five, the publishing company of best-selling author James Frey, for a “groundbreaking transmedia collaboration.” As part of the deal, James Frey and Full Fathom Five will work closely with Glu on the creation of a minimum of four original story ideas during the initial two-year term of the agreement, which will be brought to life in different media, including being written as action-adventure novels and developed into mobile games.

Glu may be new to the concept but Full Fathom Five has already experienced success in transmedia collaboration with “I Am Number Four,” a #1 New York Times bestseller for 7 weeks, which was produced into a film by Dreamworks and Disney released earlier this year and grossed $128 million worldwide.

I haven’t read Frey’s books and had to inform myself on his work from his Wikipedia page. Aside from “I Am Number Four,” he has written three other #1 bestsellers, has 10 million books in print, and his work is published in 39 languages.

We’re looking forward to see what this partnership can produce. Definitely sounds interesting…
